Since the Republic of Cyprus entered into the European Union, it is undergoing a crisis of conscience. In many ways, it is not up to European standards as far as the environment is concerned, although it has made some efforts towards a sustainable future. Of course, this site refers to the Republic of Cyprus alone, as the voting of 24 April 2004 has excluded the North from sharing in the entry to the EU. This site consists of a series of essays on a current evaluation and how it would be possible to improve the situation. These pages express my own opinion, based on a long experience of environmental engineering, observations made over a number of years and on discussions with others. Everyone is invited to participate in discussions on environmental or energy matters within Cyprus (or elsewhere) in our new Bulletin Board forums or comment on the website itself.
