Description

A fossil fuel is one which is extracted from the earth's crust, as opposed to biofuels. They are formed over millions of years as a result of the decomposition and metamorphosis of dead life forms. The main fossil fuels are various forms of coal, crude oil and natural gas, as well as fuels derived from these basic ones, such as most hydrogen, liquefied petroleum gases, motor fuels, jet fuels, light and heavy fuel oils, coke, coal gas etc.
