Welcome to the Environment & Energy Wiki (public beta version)
This Wiki is an editable international encyclopaedia covering all aspects of Environment and Energy matters. Everyone is welcome to contribute to it, so as to make it as complete as possible. Initially, many of the articles will be incomplete, at this stage, and at a "beginners' level" and it is hoped that many users will add increasing amounts of data. Unlike other reference sites, the aim is to offer practical, as well as theoretical knowledge. The target audience is essentially the informed public, politicians, NGOs, etc., rather than scientists, although there will be a great deal of scientific knowledge in it, here and there. It is intended to be impartial and non-commercial, to allow people to develop an informed opinion based on facts and not on propaganda. Where a subject is deemed controversial, this is pointed out and, where possible, both sides of the controversy are presented.
The general layout is similar to Wikipedia and those familiar with it should have little difficulty in navigating around this EEWiki.

Beta version
This is a public beta version. This means that anyone who wants to, can put in their two cents worth, subject to the usual restrictions. This also means that most of the articles need some bits and pieces added and everyone who can do so is cordially invited to contribute (or write some new articles). However, this is not an invitation for kooks and fruitcakes! Please don't forget to tell all your environmentally-conscious friends to join in, as well; the more contributors there are, the faster the Wiki can be published!
Getting started
The first thing you should do is to register as a member. This is a harmless procedure and doing so will not cause you to receive spam or other nasties. You will not be able to start new pages, edit or discuss without doing so, although you can read all the articles and discussions without logging in. To minimise the risk of spam from entering the site, we have installed a two-word "captcha" in the Create account function. This prevents automatic spam bots from registering. If you cannot read one of the words, click on the top button to the right of the entry field to obtain two new words or click the middle button to hear eight digits being dictated. You can then fill in your nickname and password, twice. That's all! Optionally, you can also fill in your e-mail address and name, but don't bother if you don't want to! Note that if you do enter an e-mail address, the privileges of having requested e-mail addressed to you will start only after you have confirmed it.
Have a look around the files in the All articles page in the navigation pane to the left. You will find a few fully-fledged articles with references, many half-finished articles requiring some more info and references, a number of defined articles requiring a lot more work, a few with a bare template and not even a definition and a number of redirection pages, such as abbreviations.
If you look at the New pages to do in the navigation pane, you will see lots of red links. These are mostly links from articles that are asking for more info.
Before starting, please look into the Help files. The first four are the General rules (simple and few!), how to start a new article, how to edit existing articles and how to discuss existing articles. The rest are more specific help files on individual topics.
Rules
It is not intended to have a hundred rules, but we must have a few simple ones: no spam or anything of a blatant commercial nature; no politics, religion, sex, bad language or other inappropriate material; no copyright material; no slanderous or libellous statements; no ad personem attacks. The Admin reserves the right to remove inappropriate material and to suspend or ban whoever posts such at his own discretion. The Admin takes no responsibility for anything posted on this wiki by third parties, whether they be registered users or not. For a fuller list of rules, please see General rules
