Description

A photovoltaic panel is designed to absorb as much energy from solar radiation as possible and to convert it into electricity. Commercial panels have an efficiency of about 15% or 150 W/m2 but experimental ones may double this. Their use is limited by a relatively high capital cost, requiring decades at current electricity prices to amortise. Some governments encourage their use by offering attractive capital subsidies and electricity buy-back packages so that amortisation can be achieved in under 10 years.
