Seems like Honda will bring reasonably effective NOx reduction to the table for passenger diesel vehicles in the next few years. I wonder if it'll meet CARB standards... It looks like they incorporated absorbtion/purging via some kind of trap with a method of generating a reductant to mop up what the trap doesn't capture. Maybe?

Maybe. What would scare me is if any ammonia escaped. It is very toxic. The whole thing depends on stoichiometry in the reactions. As catalysts change their characteristics in time (eg. a Pt hot wire gas lighter will work only for a few months because the surface is "poisoned" by impurities in the gas), can the stoichiometry be maintained over the range from lean to rich driving? I'd want to know more about the lifetime of what appears to be a VERY expensive converter.

Honda's new catalytic converter efficiently reduces NOx in a lean-burn atmosphere, enabling diesel engines to rival gasoline engines in cleanliness. Honda can see the potential of diesel in the United States, and this new advanced catalytic converter technology could give the company a useful competitive.
